Waleed Hazbun

is Richard L. Chambers Professor in Middle Eastern studies in the Department of Political Science at The University of Alabama. Previously, Waleed was an Associate Professor of International Politics at the American University of Beirut (AUB) where he served as Director of the Center for Arab and Middle Eastern Studies from 2011 to 2016. Before AUB, he also taught at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. His areas of interest include the international relations of the Middle East, US foreign policy, critical geopolitics, international political economy, and the politics and history of international travel and tourism. He is author of Beaches, Ruins, Resorts: The Politics of Tourism in the Arab World (Minnesota, 2008) and co-editor of and contributor to New Conflict Dynamics in the Middle East and North Africa (Copenhagen, 2017). He has been published in journals including Geopolitics, Third World Quarterly, Middle East Policy, Arab Studies Journal, Peace & Change, Tourist Studies, and Middle East Report. His ongoing research projects include addressing the politics of insecurity in the Arab world, while another explores the global politics of airports and aviation in the Middle East.
